I have been a bad, bad, bad blogger...

Is it time for the kids to go back to school yet??? I only sort of mean that, I like being with them but we need to get back to a routine. And I need to get back to stamping!!! No stamping, no time to blog, haven't even walked into my office in almost two weeks, except to do laundry and stash the mega pack of paper towels I bought. I am hopeing by Wednesday to have a chance to stamp, but don't hold your breath because it will probably take me a couple of days to get the house back to "normal". That and I need to figure out what is wrong with my camera, the sd card with all of my pictures from Christmas is mysteriously blank. I need to find out if this is a camera problem or a sd card problem.

In the mean time, until I have something post worthy, I have been tagged by Diane, check out her blog.
The rules of the game:
• Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
• Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog, we all want to know them.
• Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
• Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
hmm...
you would think that coming up with 7 random and/or weird things about me wouldn't be a problem but my brain seems a little fogged this morning, must need chocolate! Here goes:
1. I have to have a diet Pepsi every morning to jump start my day. (alright I know this isn't news to most of you but it is one of the weirdest things about me other then the whole having to0 many kids things.)
2. My favorite place in the world is Sanibel Island where I vacation just about every year with my girlfriends. A full week of no husbands or children just friends, fun and sun.
3. I love lists! I have a list of things to do before I die, a one year and a five year plan, daily check lists, shopping lists, wish lists, you name it I probably have a list for it. When I don't have a plan I feel lost, confused and don't manage to get anything done. Silly I know, but it works for me.
4. I've actually been published. But not for stamping or scrapbooking. I used to write a newsletter for our local foster parent support group. One of my articles was picked up by various state and national groups and they have reprinted my article. Recently a Vermont paper reprinted the article as well.
5. I don't like toast but I love grilled cheese sandwiches. Does that make sense?
6. I am married to the man I took to my high school prom and still live in the house we bought when I was 22, less then a mile from the above mentioned high school.
7. My faith and family are the most important things in my life. I have been blessed richly by my Lord. I have a wonderful husband, 5 healthy children, a safe home, fabulous friends and the resources to indulge in a hobby (okay, I know it borders on obsession, but humor me) that has introduced me to wonderful women from around the world.

Now to tag a some people
I will start with my friend, Julianna, she is so incredibly talented. She is currently bogged down in the whole Christmas, visiting family, kids home from school thing too. But her blog "stamping with inky fingers " is certainly worth checking out.
Next I would like you to check out my friend Judy's blog "Joy in a JAR". She wrote about resolutions yesterday, and it was fabulous! I think I will need to jump on board with her because I have a couple of things I need to be resolute about in my life.
I am not going to tag her because I am sure she gets tagged all the time but if you don't already check her out you need to read JanTink's blog, "Stamps, Paper, Scissors". She never fails to make me smile and she is very, very funny.
Another one for you to check out is Linsay's blog "In My Stamp Room". She featured me as her stamper of the week a couple of weeks ago and she has some wonderful tutorials.
At the moment I can't think of anyone else though there are tons of wonderful bloggers out there.

Snowed in!

This is the view out my garage door this morning. We got hit by a nasty nor'easter this weekend and are buried in about 14 inches of fresh snow. That is on top of all the rest of the snow we got last week, not to mention the 4-6 we are supposed to get today. Didn't even make it to church yesterday and school is canceled this morning. We have a ton of shoveling to do and really need to get my van unburied, since it hasn't moved since Saturday, but right now the view is lovely.

Embracing the new catalog!

My new toys have arrived! I have to admit that December seems an odd time for me to be getting new toys since this time of year is all about the kids but this time it was my turn. With the release of the new Spring/Summer Stampin' Up! catalog literally only a couple of weeks away my preorder from the new catalog has arrived. I have to say that having new stamp sets before most everyone else is my favorite perk of being a demonstrator but I am nice and will share with you what I have gotten.

This card is made with the new stamp set Embrace Life, which I have to say is my favorite of the new stuff I have seen. I am very sure that you will be seeing a lot of it in the future. I also used the new Bali Breeze designer paper. I have to admit that at first glance in the preview catalog I wasn't sure that I was going to love this paper but now that I have seen it in real life, I really like it and it goes wonderfully with this stamp set.

What I used:
Embrace Life stamp set
White Naturals, Certainly Celery, Rose Red, Basic Black card stock
Bali Breeze designer paper
Black Stazon
Certainly Celery, Rose Red, Pumpkin Pie classic ink for watercoloring
sponge, vintage brads, Certainly Celery and Pumpkin Pie narrow grosgrain ribbon, Black gingham ribbon

What I did:
I stamped the main image with Black Stazon since I planned on watercoloring. I stamped one flower, created a mask by stamping the flower image a couple of times on scrap paper and cutting them out, then masked the flower and stamped a second flower overlapping the first flower. I then masked that flower as well and stamped the leaves that are in the background. Before I removed the mask I sponged with Certainly Celery ink around the flowers. I then removed the masks and watercolored the image. The image is layered on Rose Red and Basic Black. I used the Bali Breeze designer paper as a background and an other strip of it to add a little interest. Still needed a little something so I added the ribbon and vintage brads to give it a little pop.

I have to say that it felt really good to stamp again. It has taken a lot of time to get my house back into something close to well ordered. I am thankful that my office is usable again and hope to be back to stamping on a regular basis. Thank you for being patient with me.

Great News!

Hi everybody. No stamping today but I have fabulous news. Our foster daughter Ellie was freed yesterday for adoption and we will begin adoption proceedings as soon as possible. We are thrilled beyond belief with this news and praise God for the blessings he has bestowed upon us. Having Ellie join us permanently is something we have only been able to dream about for the last several years since we took adoptive placement and then adopted two of her siblings. We are thankful for caring caseworkers that made reuniting these siblings a priority, a wise judge that truly was mindful of what was best for Ellie, and a loving God that has blessed us beyond measure.

We also finally have our certificate of occupancy on the large addition on our house (a work in progress for 5 long years) and are busy finally, permanently moving into it. Also the lumber was just delivered to start our last major project, turning our old garage into a huge family room. Hopefully by Monday I will have my office straighten out and the chaos under control so I can get back to my usual, crazy life.

farewell Frosty....

It is time to bid Frosty a fond farewell for his time has come....he has been retired. In case you haven't seen the retired list check it out. I have a workshop this afternoon so today is all about using my retired set for the last time before the go into my sale bin to be sold off in January to finance the purchase of new rubber stamps.

The Frosty card is a fairly simple one. I used an always artichoke card base with a couple of strips of Wintergreen designer paper. Frosty is matted with always artichoke and soft sky card stock. Frosty is stamped in basic black on whisper white then I stamped him again on a scrap of the designer paper and cut out the scarf, hat band and leaf and attached them to the main image. Used markers to color his hat, carrot and buttons.

This card is just a quickie using Double Line Doodle. The card body is Very Vanilla and the greeting from Hugs & Wishes is stamped in basic black. On a scrap of very vanilla I stamped some of the flowers from Double Line Doodle, add some color with markers. I used several different sizes of punches to punch out the flowers and the corresponding circles. I added some Rich Regal brad to the center of the flowers

The last card uses Solemn Stillness and itty bitty backgrounds . I have seen several cards in Splitcoast stampers that is the same general idea as this card so I can not take full credit for the idea but this is my version of it. I used Going Gray, Basic Gray and Basic Black card stock. For inks I used Basic Gray but did not reink everytime I stamped and Whisper White for the snow and moon. This photo does not show it but while the whisper white ink was still wet I embossed with iridescent ice embossing powder to the card has a nice sparkle to it.
