birthday whimsy...

Image
Is there anything better then a free stamp set? Not much! Well you have to love the free sale-a-bration stamp sets. I just mounted these two sets yesterday and wanted to share this quick and easy card with you. In real life the reds match but my camera currently hates me. Tax return check just came so I will be getting a new one soon. Yeah! What I used: Birthday Whimsy and Lots of Thoughts stamp sets Basic Black, Whisper White, Real Red card stock Real Red Prints designer paper (free hostess level 1) Real Red and Basic Black classic ink pads dazzling diamonds glitter and crystal effects 1 3/8 circle punch and scallop circle punch

a little bit of happiness...

This is one of those really complicated cards that you aren't sure until you are done if it is really going to turn out okay. I have been wanting to try out this color combination for a couple of days but wasn't really sure what to do with it. Then I stumbled across Julee from Verve Visuals Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge and I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to do. What I used: A Little Bit of Happiness (Level 1 hostess) stamp set Basic Black, River Rock and Whisper White card stock Basic Black classic ink pad and River Rock classic ink to watercolor the leaves River Rock double stitched grosgrain ribbon, Basic Black grosgrain ribbon Scallop circle punch and 1 3/8 circle punch

playing with new designer paper...

Image
When the Outlaw designer paper retired in December I was a little bummed. I really like that paper so when I saw that the new catalog had the Western Sky designer paper, which is the same patterns but different colors I had to give it a try. I kinda let it sit there for several weeks because I wasn't too sure about the colors but I dragged them out today. I used Beate's weekend sketch challenge to make this really quick and simple card. I know it has a bunch of layers but it really was very quick. I just layered the designer paper with blue bayou and river rock card stock. The greeting and horse are stamped on whisper white, the greeting in blue bayou and the horse in river rock. I also sponged the edges of the whisper white card stock with river rock classic ink. What I used: Wanted stamp set Blue Bayou, River Rock and Whisper White card stock Western Sky designer paper Blue Bayou and River Rock classic ink pads Blue Bayou double stitched grosgrain ribbon sponge

What I have been doing instead of stamping...

Image
Instead of stamping a lot of my free time in the last month has been spent redoing our down stairs bathroom. We had a crack in our tub so the tub had to be replaced. And when you rip out a tub you have to remove the vanity and toilet then you find out that part of the walls have to be placed and since the room is already gutted you might as well replace the floor. So long story short the more we did, the more we had to do and I now have an entirely new bathroom with the exception of the medicine cabinet and the light fixture above it. Check out my new ceramic tile floor that I did by myself. Jeff helped me with some of the cuts but the bathroom is two small for two people to work at the same time, so I opted to do it. I have to say that laying tile is one of the most satisfying things I have ever done.

more a light unto my path...

I know, I know. The same stamp set, the same colors. What is up with that? Sorry but I really like this color combination and todays pictures are better so you can see that the color combo is actually good. I had an image in my head and had to waste a bunch of card stock to get it to come out the way I wanted it to but I am happy with the end results. This card is a window card. The main image of the card is inside the card and you view it through a "window" in the card. Clever? Not my original idea but one certainly worth using. What I used: A Light Unto My Path stamp set Night of Navy, Wild Wasabi and Confetti White card stock Night of Navy classic ink pad Wild Wasabi striped grosgrain ribbon What I did: I used the coluzzle cutting system to cut the ovals. I cut the oval in the confetti white card stock first then lined it up with the inside layer of white, marked where the oval was with pencil so I could erase it after I was done, then stamped the lighthouse image

a light unto my path...

Image
I wish I had been able to get a better picture of this. The card body and dark layers are night of navy, not black as they appear in the picture. Navy contrasts so nicely with the wild wasabi, I wish you could see it properly. What I used: A Light Unto My Path stamp set Night of Navy, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White card stock Night of Navy classic ink pad Wild Wasabi striped grosgrain ribbon

more morning soft

Image
I really, really like this stamp set. This color combination (from todays color challenge) was a little difficult but I think I made it work. What do you think? What I used: Morning Soft stamp set, Paisley background stamp Basic Gray, Pumpkin Pie, Orchid Opulence, Certainly Celery, Whisper White card stock Watercolor paper Certainly Celery Prints designer paper Black Stazon ink pad, Basic Gray Pumpkin Pie striped grosgrain ribbon Watercolor Wonder Crayons and aquapainter

Happy Valentines Day

Image
What can be worse then a terrible cold on Valentines Day? Doubt that my hubby will even want to be in the same room with me, not sure I even want to be in the same room with myself?!?!? Feeling like crud but I did manage to throw together this valentine. What I used: Happy Heart Day stamp set, Paisley background stamp Real Red, Regal Rose, Basic Black, Whisper White card stock Real Red and Basic Black classic ink pad, Going Gray and Regal Rose for watercoloring the mouse White gel pen Wide Real Red grosgrain ribbon

super simple baby card

Image
I needed a baby card and I also needed another workshop card so I was going for simple. This SAB set So Many Scallops has to be one of the easiest sets for making quick and simple cards. What I used: So Many Scallops stamp set, Paisley background stamp Wild Wasabi, So Saffron, Whisper White card stock Wild Wasabi classic stamp pad, Versamark stamp pad White embossing powder, heat tool, scallop punch, double stitched Wild Wasabi grosgrain ribbon.

valentines

Image
I had a request to do a valentine at the workshop I am doing tonight. This one has a lot more layers then I usually use for a workshop card but it just seemed to need them. This elephant is so very cute and paper piecing him just makes him pop right off the card What I used: Happy Heart Day stamp set, Polka Dot background stamp Real Red, Whisper White, Regal Rose, Basic Black card stock Basic Black, Always Artichoke (for sponging) and Real Red classic stamp pad Stampin' Write markers, small tag punch, rectangle punch, sponge, white gel pen, striped Real Red grosgrain ribbon

three super quick scallop cards

Image
This week I did a little class for my local MOPS (mothers of preschoolers). I needed something that they could make fairly quickly but still had some pop. I have to say that doing cards like this is one of my favorite ways to use designer paper and the Sale-a-Bration set So Many Scallops is perfect for it! What I used: So Many Scallops Basic Black, Whisper White Certainly Celery, Almost Amethyst, So Saffron Prints designer paper Basic Black, Certainly Celery, Almost Amethyst, So Saffron classic stamp pads Black gingham ribbon, scallop punch, 1" and 1 1/4" circle punches

another dahlia fold...

Image
I was playing around with another Dahlia fold card because I have a couple of workshops at the end of the month that are mostly advanced stampers and I like to challenge them a bit. Not sure if I am going to use this or not but I thought I would share it with you. What I used: Boho Backgrounds stamp set Close to Cocoa and Whisper White card stock Berry Bliss designer paper 1" circle punch, 1 3/8" circle punch white grosgrain ribbon

Image
Had to come up with a fairly quick (because I left it until the last minute) Sale-a-bration swap for my demo group. This card uses the So Many Scallops SAB set. What I used: So Many Scallops Ruby Red, River Rock, Groovy Guava card stock Ginger Blossoms designer paper Groovy Guava and Ruby Red classic ink pads Groovy Guava double stitched grosgrain ribbon scallop punch, slit punch(for scalloped edges), 1 inch and 1/2 inch circle punches

Morning Glories make me dream of summer...

Image
When I first saw the new catalog I was thrilled to see a bunch of new sets that just cry out to be watercolored. I know that watercoloring isn't everyones favorite but I just love it. So when I put in my first order this set was one of the first things I had to have. The weather has been miserable here the last couple of days, rain, snow, freezing rain, everything is wet and slippery. And I am dreaming of summer. Every year my morning glories, planted along the edge of the garage, come back. I started them from one of those free packets of seed that someone gave out and every spring I go out, shake the old vines before I tear them down, rake the soil a little bit and don't they just come right back. They are so beautiful. What I used: Morning Soft stamp set, Canvas background, Sanded background Brocade Blue, Chocolate Chip, Naturals White card stock Watercolor paper, Bashful Blue prints designer paper (level 1 hostess) Black Stazon, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Cream

I'm back again...

Image
Wow I actually survived almost an entire week without internet service. Finally got a new router and it is up and functioning. So I am back to blogging. I missed a bunch of interesting challenges over on Splitcoast Stampers while I was out of touch. I did this card to cover 3 challenges. The "Try a New Technique", color and sketch challenges. The new technique part of the challenge was this interesting medallion made using the Dahlia fold technique. Because I wanted to do the color challenge called "Making YoYo Yellow look good!" (yoyo yellow, basic gray and going gray) as well as the sketch challenge I used layered circles of yoyo yellow and basic gray instead of double sided designer paper. This is NOT the easy way to do the dahlia fold. It makes your circles hard to fold and your flower very bulky. In fact it was down right difficult but when I get one of these bright ideas I seem to need to go all the way with it. The folds are not really difficult t
